Snapshot Multi Magnetometer Facility
About
The Snapshot-MMF is a fixed-array, multi-sensor facility engineered for high-accuracy, rapid characterization of an Equipment Under Test (EUT)’s magnetic signature. Evolving from a 2014 initiative, this facility is now an essential ESA asset, continually upgraded with features like AI-powered analysis and enhanced AC/DC capabilities.
It ensures stringent magnetic cleanliness compliance for space missions through three core pillars:
- Speed and Efficiency with total magnetic signature measurement in ~1 minute.
- Precision and Quality within state-of-the-art accuracy, especially for larger EUTs.
- Simplicity and Automation via software procedures and automated data reporting.

Innovation
Snapshot-MMF introduces a unique measurement process that sets it apart from any competing system.
Instantaneous 3D Mapping
Traditional turntables capture data points sequentially, making metrics vulnerable to ambient magnetic drift over time. The Snapshot-MMF utilizes a fixed 12-sensor array to capture a “frozen frame” of the magnetic field in under one minute. This simultaneous sampling eliminates temporal errors, ensuring superior measurement repeatability and high-fidelity dipole modeling.
Unified DC & AC Integration
The MMF-Hybrid integrates Fluxgate and Search Coil sensors into a single facility, capturing both DC and AC magnetic signatures simultaneously. Controlled via a unified software platform, this eliminates the need for multiple test setups. It allows engineers to analyze remanent magnetism and active EMI in one synchronized, high-speed acquisition cycle.
Modular Scalability and Portability
The system’s modular, panel-based design replaces bulky Helmholtz coils, making it adaptable to various EUT sizes. By using a unified software and hardware ecosystem across fixed and portable versions (Suitcase-MMF), organizations can standardize magnetic testing globally. This scalability ensures consistent data formats and reduced training costs across international facilities.
